Fairlea Grange is a historic holiday home in Wales. This imposing Gothic Townhouse located in Abergavenny was once the childhood home of Ethel Lina White, whose book The Wheel Spins was adapted by Alfred Hitchcock into the classic hit movie, The Lady Vanishes. It is now a large holiday house available to rent for parties, celebrations and get-togethers with family or friends.

Fairlea Grange is a 10 bedroom house which comfortably sleeps 12 – 24 people, with a couple of additions in z beds plus 2 cots for infants.

If you’re looking for a holiday home with character the lounge has a great fireplace, complete with woodburner.  The tall, bay windows illuminate the house whilst the staircase is imposing and grand and would make a great photograph!

Bedrooms are large and welcoming, family bathrooms are similarly spacious and there are wonderful views up to the Welsh mountains above the town.

There are a number of ways your large group can relax at the cottage such as a hot tub, games room, minigym and a 6 person sauna. Well behaved dogs and other pets are welcome

Fairlea Grange is not suitable for stags, or raucous parties.

Fairlea Grange: Your questions answered

Fairlea Grange was built by William, the father of Ethel Lina White, in the 1880s. It was designed in a Mock Tudor style with carved fireplaces, stone archways and stained glass windows. The layout of the staircase featured in the novel The Wheel Spins and was also featured in later movie adaptations of The Lady Vanishes.

Ethel Lina White was seen as a contemporary of fellow crime writer Agatha Christie and when it came to casting the lead role for Hitchcock’s original version of The Lady Vanishes, Margaret Lockwood said she was inspired by the heroines of White’s novels.

Situated in quiet area close to both the Brecon Beacons and the Wye Valley, with the Forest of Dean only a short drive away, there is no shortage of activities for yourself and other guests whilst staying at this fabulous large holiday cottage.
