Susan K - 03.09.24 -9/10

There were plenty of places we could have visited but the main purpose of the visit was a family reunion and everyone just wanted to hang out together using the facilities at the property which catered for everyone’s needs.

The Mountain biking in the forest our children really enjoyed it.

Recommends: Perrygrove Railway and Butterfly Farm.
The children loved the space, the games room, the hot tub , the play area and of course the river.
Everything we needed to enjoy ourselves was on site, or walking distance. I can highly recommend The Wye River Lodge

Steph L -22-07-24 -10/10

Recommeds: Canoeing down the River Wye was fantastic! I also loved visiting Goodrich Castle.

John G - 15.07024 - 8/10

As a large group, we went to Wye Adventures and did raft building, which was a great team building exercise.

Graham W - 10.07.24 - 8/10

It was a perfect venue for our family gathering. It was very well equipped and came with everything we needed for the weekend. We had a great time, thank you.

Glen B - 09.07.024 - 10/10

We enjoyed the overall beautiful scenery & the Segway in the Forest of Dean
The facilities were fabulous & always plenty to do in this well thought out home.

Stephen M - 26-06-24 - 10/10

Some members of our party enjoyed visiting Ross-on-Wye, and others had a great experience at the Wye Valley Sculpture Park.

Primarily, we used the property as a base for walks in the nearby countryside, however, some members of our (mature) party spent a lot of time in the excellent games room, and hot tub. We were fortunate in having decent weather, and made full use of the excellent sitting out area looking across at the river, and we also enjoyed the little park across the road. With regards to the sleeping accommodation, kitchen and dining facilities and socialising room, it was just as were expecting, and we have no complaints whatsoever. We can highly recommend the property.

We enjoyed Goodrich Castle, Dean Heritage Centre and the Dean Forest Railway

Our party of 21 enjoyed staying at Wye River Lodge - the space and facilities worked well for us and the well equipped kitchen made cooking for a large number as easy as it can be. We especially enjoyed using the bar area for our own private pub quiz. Thank you.

The house was perfect for 14 adults and 10 children, great for hiding games, not so posh we felt the children had to be careful, great playroom and garden, pls Ty of cooking facilities
We had a great week and would recommend for large mixed age groups.

Eastnor castle very good value compared to other days out and loads for children to do
Plenty of walks

Perfect house for a family holiday

Perfect house for a family holiday. We had 10 children between 2 and 12 years and 14 adults including great gran 89 years. Perfect ground floor bedroom for her.
Large lounge for gatherings, plenty of room at the dining table and the playroom was excellent.
The house was clean but not so perfect that we felt we had to watch the children all the time
The hot tub was popular, as was hide and seek
Kitchens were well supplied
Eastnor castle a great day out and compared to other days out very reasonably priced as well as the castle, there was a mud kitchen, playground and den building activities everybody loved it
Apart from the castle we didn’t need to go anywhere else the house kept the children amused with lots of imaginary games
We did go to a local playground with a MUGA for a family football match
We have a family holiday every year and this house has been the best so far

Date of experience: 18 August 2023

Gill R. - 12.08.23 - 9/10

Very clean & comfortable house with lots of room for a party of 21, including babies. Loved spacious building, communal areas & kitchens. Location was fabulous too. Loads of parking, separate games room for older visitors, so many other features too. Only negative from many of our party was the struggle to use Wi-Fi /internet which made booking things & contacting people difficult.
Fantastic holiday- nightly recommend it.
(re Wi-Fi, there was a fault on the line)

Maggie C - 25.07.23 - 10/10

The house worked well for us and I liked the fact that the lounge sat everyone of us (all 23). Other places we have been there has been a big lounge and a smaller one which has meant the party splits up slightly. So it was good everyone was able to sit together.
The only improvement could have been the weather as it poured down on Saturday. So in and out of Rooms 11 and 12 we got a bit wet. Also possibly slightly better lighting on that area. ! was in room 12 and going up to it later at night I did think I wish the lighting that came on was a bit brighter.
Sunday was much better and we had a lovely BBQ in the sun and the little ones enjoyed the play area at the front.
Go Ape was enjoyed by the more athletic of our party, Also Canoeing down the River Wye, although several said choose the 6 mile course not the 9 mile!
For little ones a trip to Perryvale Train ride was excellent. Steam train rides, plus a tree house play area with a great slide. plus the Twilight Village. Just a basic area built with lots of little rooms and corridors, tunnels, climb through cupboards, very basic concept but gives hours and hours of fun

House by River Wye

We have just spent a weekend celebrating a big birthday with 25 family members at River Wye Lodge Lydbrook. Age range 80yrs - 15months! We had a great weekend, despite torrential rain Saturday morning,so the games room came into its own,but enjoyed lovely BBQ in the sunshine Sunday afternoon. The house is very well laid out, very clean and very well equipped. Managed by Big House holiday lets. Lots to do in the area, and around the Forest of Dean, Lovely area. BHHL even found a missing much loved toy and sent it back to us - pretty good service I would say.

Sharon G - 10.07.23 - 9/10

We were at the lodge for a family reunion and it was perfect for us all. Plenty of space. The kitchen was well equipped and no shortage of plates, cutlery, glasses etc. Huge dining table was brilliant for us all to sit together to eat. The internet wasn't great but that could just be the area? Would highly recommend for large groups.
Canoeing along the river was a great experience. Forest Hills Golf Club, Coleford.

We had a fabulous family reunion with BHHL!

We had a fabulous family reunion at the River Wye Lodge. The house itself was perfect for our needs, loads of room. There was no shortage of plates, glasses, cutlery, utensils for our large group of 23. The dining table was huge and we were all able to sit together for meal times. The hot tub was an added bonus. There was plenty of outdoor space for us all. 16 of the group went canoeing and it was wonderful and well worth booking up. There is lots to do in the area and lots of leaflets at the house to help you find things to do. The whole booking experience and customer service was excellent and one of the group forgot their mobile phone, it was found and promptly returned to us. Just brilliant! Would definitely recommend. Thank you BHHL for an amazing weekend!

Catherine S - 08.06.23 8/10

Having a property big enough yet friendly enough for such a differing age group was great. Hot tub a great success too. Dog friendly too!
Messing about on the river, that's all we did!

Ann P - 03.06.23 10/10

It was a great experience being in an old pub , no last orders . The hot tub was spotless which and great having the cover as even if it had rained we could have still used it.
days out: Ross on Wye, Symonds Yat

Sally S - 30.05.23 8/10

We so liked spending time at this amazing house in a lovely setting that we stayed put to enjoy special time with our family and enjoy all the facilities provided. Children and adults also enjoyed swimming in the river and soaking up the beautiful sunshiine and countryside.

Richard T - 16.05.23 10/10

We had a fantastic family gathering. The property had everything we needed- it was perfect. Kitchen equipment was well stocked and had everything we needed to cater for our group of 22. Thank you

Meryl M  -  16.05.23  9/10

The house was perfect for our requirements in an absolutely beautiful area.
The WiFi was intermittent and there was one socket not working in the games room but this did not spoil our stay.

Margaret K - 11.04.23  9/10

We enjoyed the. Dog walks by the river. Lovely views and adequate parking..
Days out:  Canoeing was great,
Children enjoyed Butterfly world and the Maze.

Andy H - 10.04.23  10/10

Val S - 29.03.23   10/10

Lovely house, kept in excellent clean condition. The only things we were lacking were dessert spoons (we had to use soup spoons) and another cafettiere would have been useful.  Lovely area for walking

Anita W - 27.03.23 10/10

The whole weekend was brilliant, so much room, great social space and the beds were very comfy.

Dawn H 15.03.23  10/10

Booked River Wye Lodge for a 60th birthday celebration of 25(age 2-70). Amazing place with everything we needed and would book again. Only
recommendation would be the decor could do with a bit of a refresh in places.

Elisabeth J  20.02.23  8/10

The Lodge is just right for our mixture of people from 3 to 81. We do a lot of cooking and the kitchens are excellent with the 3 cookers, big fridges and freezers and 2 dishwashers.  It is a good base to visit all sorts of places from castles to railways to bird reserves, as well as doing country walks.  The only bugbear is the WiFi. We found it poor, particularly if several people were using it at the same time. One of our party suggested getting a WiFi Mesh and flooding the whole house with it.  Three more minor points. 1. The shower head in one of the annex bathrooms needs cleaning as the flow was poor. 2. Bedroom 1 was very cold. 3. The annoyingly huge disabled taps on the very small basin in the ground floor bedroom bathroom preventing one easily putting your face close to the basin of water.  However on the whole the house was very warm and comfortable with masses of hot water. We very much enjoyed our stay and hope to come back for a third visit.  Days out:  Goodrich Castle, Tredegar House, Puzzle Wood, Tretower Court, Nagshead RSPB, Perrygrove Railway, Hereford, Abergavenny, Ledbury, Crickhowell.

Zbig G  14.02.23  9/10

Excellent property for 20 people. A lot of room for general lounging and separate dining room.
Once put on the heating warmed the building quite quickly. There is a log fire that we didn't use.
The games room playing pool, table football and table tennis took us back to our youth,
Cooking facilities very good. Much fridge space.
The hot tub was enjoyed by many.  Days out:  just did local walks in the area.  Had a visit to Symonds Yat and along the Wye.

Pete R  12.02.23  10/10

The hot tub was very welcome after a busy day out. The games room was good as well but could you provide some chalk for the pool cues please.

Merce A   12.02.23  8/10

Lots of walks in the Forest of Dean direct from outside the house

Chrstine C   07.02.23  9/10

Comfortable beds and furniture. Hot tub and games room great. Walks direct from the house- very convenient location.  On the negative side the timing of the heating seemed to be out. Late afternoon, evening, when we got back from a day out some of the heating would not seem to be on, then would be on late in the evening.

Priscilla H  07.02.23  10/10

A great house for any occasion, plenty of cooking facilities, lounge space and parking

Karen L  24.01.23  10/10

Everything was perfect and we loved every bit of the property,we would all love to return in a summer month so we could enjoy the beer garden and park, the lady who meet us Friday was absolutely lovely so many thanks to you all for an amazing time in your fabulous house

Craig T   04.01.23  9/10

Large accommodation and perfect for the group size. Always nice and warm with plenty of kitchen utensils, not one negative in regards to the property!

Days out:  Hereford was a lovely city with lots of shops and restaurants

Rachel H   02.12.22  10/10

We enjoyed having plenty of comfy sofas after busy days out, and that the lodge was warm and welcoming. No complaints at all!

Days out:  Forest of Dean parkrun, the family cycle trail, Goodrich castle and walk over Coppett hill.

Heather T   16.11.22  10/10

This was our second stay at River Wye Lodge because we loved it so much the first time. The games room and the downstairs twin room both look a little tired but honestly it didn't matter to us but might to some people.   Days out:  Walks along the River opposite the property, Symonds Yat and the Forest of Dean.  The Dean Forest Railway.

Robert B  15.11.22   9/10

Great accommodation for a big family get together.  Days out:   Great for walking.  Lovely walking to Symonds Yat

Geraint R   01.11.22   9/10

Outside childrens playground area is excellent.  Kitchen is great, very well equipped.  Bedrooms are very comfortable.  Louge and dining room and bar area are a good size.  Check in with Julie was excellent.  WiFi and internet services are poor quality.  This is probably out of the owners control but is a small drawback.

Jenny H     11.10.22     9/10

The lounge/bar space was excellent for large group socialising. It was great to have so many bathrooms and all the bedrooms are lovely. Plenty of car park space! Kids playground is very good. Easy access to riverside walks.
Kitchen needed more tea towels, kitchen roll, more dustbin sacks, salt and pepper, oil. Otherwise very well equipped. Gas cookers ok but controls all worn so difficult to use, especially ovens. One of the oven doors difficult to close. Some instructions for oven controls might help.   Walks by the river, and to the top of Coppett Hill. Goodrich Castle. Usk

Janie C    09.10.22    8/10

Lots of space & very well equipped, could do with a makeover though looking a bit tired, great location.

Lorraine P    08.10.22    10/10

The space was great. We had a murder mystery on the Saturday evening which worked brilliantly using the bar, lounge and dining room areas. The children really enjoyed the games room too. The kitchens were a decent size and fully equipped too.  We didn't really do much, went for a walk by the river which was lovely. We just enjoyed the space at the house and each other's company.

 Damien M                     10.09.22                            9/10

Great layout for a big group. The lounge/bar was excellent. Good games room.

Neil C                       01.09.22                               8/10

We used all the facilities fully. Would recommend shower and footbath beside hot tub.
Excellent for a family gathering from 3 years to 73!

Hannah  L               23.08.22            8/10

We enjoyed how much space there was. There were 26 of us (all family members) and no one ever felt like they were on top of each other -people could be in their rooms, round one side of the lounge space, the games room, in the dining area or in the garden and/or hot tub. As a result everyone was able to relax.

Sarah C             16.08.22                    10/10

Whole property was perfect for us. Perhaps a bit more outdoor lighting would be good as we sat outside one night. Also the picnic benches are a bit tired and wonky. Loved it though!

 Sue S                13.08.22         10/10

We felt the house was one of the best we have stayed in for size and location. We didn't have to use the cars much which is always a bonus. Also the kitchen was very well equipped. The only thing we asked for were tea towels and they arrived within the hour. We will certainly be looking at some of your other houses for next year. Pre holiday admin was efficient and easy.

Saghir H            01.08.22             8/10

Badminton court would have been nicer and good rackets. Otherwise it was lovely.
We would definitely encourage others to visit and would love to come again. Thankyou.

Brian W               31.07.22          9/10

We were a family holiday 12 strong ranging from 12 to 75 and all had a great time house well presented ,clean and well fitted out for a family holiday when we can all get together again i am sure that we shall be back

Phillippa D        23.07.22          10/10

ery comfortable with plenty of space for when we wanted to gather all together but also places where people could read or be quiet away from others. Canoeing on the river popular, as were the local walks. And the games room was also popular. Nice big kitchens with several ovens, great for a large family of cooks!

Richard A      08.07.22      10/10

The space, the facilities available, the hot tub (!), the location and setting. To be honest, too much to mention!

Felicity P          04.07.22        10/10

The house was really well-stocked with everything we needed. We'd brought 'essentials' like bin bags, an iron, washing up liquid etc. Turns out we didn't need to!

Neil P              03.07.22            10/10

We were a large extended family gathering after several years of. It being able to meet up, aged from 7 to 85 . The house is well equipped for a large party , especially the kitchen and dining room which meant we could all dine in a single sitting, perfect.. The bar area and games rooms were popular and bedrooms were all well equipped. The lodge was clean and tidy and we would throughly recommend it

Kate M              22.06.22           10/10

It was exactly what we needed for a big group including adults and children! Clean and plenty of activities for kids and adults alike! Helpful booking team who were very accommodating during COVID when we had to defer x2! Many thanks.

Angtharad J          14.6.22         10/10

The games room, hot tub and the fact we could all sit around one table, both indoors and outdoors! Perfect for family with lots of kids!

Branwen J      14,06,22                10/10

Lots of different spaces to entertain in. Love the hot tub, the beds were very comfortable and the house was clean. We will definitely be re booking for next year. Thank you BHHL for a great time.

 Delyth J      14.06.22       9/10

Perfect house and location for an extended family get-together.

Tracey S     04.06.22

We all enjoyed our stay at River Wye Lodge, the whole family had a great reunion, to celebrate several birthdays and to remember my parents, Carole and Tony Fox. The family travelled from Nashville and Florida in the USA, Cornwall, and East Sussex. What’s a brilliant venue, I would not hesitate in recommending to anyone.

Danielle C    10.05.22        9/10

Absolutely ideal for our party. We loved it. Brilliant weekend.

 Ann S           03.05.22        8/10

Accomodation was very sociable and comfortable.
Only slight disappointment was that the outside area was to the front of the property and although fenced off, still a bit of a worry with younger children.

Liz L         20.04.22           10/10

Size of house and configuration of beds perfect for our needs. Huge range of pots and pans, cutlery and crockery. Loads of space inside and out.
Kitchen sink did not drain well. Couple of the showers were very slow running. Shortage of dishcloths tea towels and dishwasher tablets.

Liane P            12.04.22            9/10

It was beautifully clean and comfortable. Everyone enjoyed themselves.
We had a thought that a hot water urn would negate the boiling the kettles constantly throughout the day (these were the only items that weren’t really up to scratch)

Pauline P          07.04.22            10/10

It basically could not have been better and I couldn't recommend it more highly. Thank you

Nigel S      05.04.22         9/10

We enjoyed our stay immensely and thought that it was perfect for our group of 22. The only area to improve is the Wi-Fi where the signal was weak, and would suggest buying a larger broadband pipe to the house. This may cost a little more money but only marginally

Clive C - 04.02.22    9/10

The refurb of the old hotel is good: effective heating (important for winter weekends!), a comfy lounge that fitted all of us in and nice en-suite bathrooms. Minor improvement: recycling could be encouraged more by labelling all of the kitchen bins

 Precilla H - 02..02.22     9/10

The hot tub was a great hit, and the games room. Maybe a TV in the games room for sports fans?

Christine C    01.02.22    9/10

Shirley B   03.01.22     10/10

The area was perfectly lovely to enjoy walks.

The house was perfect for our large 3 generation family plus dogs.

Richard Strutt    30.11.21     9/10

Loved the bar/dining room layout and the fire.

 Sue S -  30.11.21      10/10

Stayed at the property the entire 3 days due to a massive storm with power cuts but still had a great time if not a little boozy!

Loved the bar/dining room layout and the fire.

Robin H  - 23.11.21       9/10

Large lounge area was ideal for our mixed age group. Almost all the bedrooms having en suite bathrooms was a big plus. Hot tub was a big favourite, unfortunately not up to temperature on the first night and some of our party had to return home on Sunday so missed out. Pam was very helpful and informatIve. Separate games room was popular with younger members but one pool table was in a poor state of repair and could not be used. Location was ideal for country walks and lots to see close by. Very positive remarks and feedback form all our party - Thank you

Helen J -  02.11.21     9/10

It was a v big, v comfortable house. Perfect for a Big Birthday celebration. It was a v big, v comfortable house. Perfect for a Big Birthday celebration.

Oliver G -  02.11.21       10/10

Enjoyed hot tub. Bar area great. shower and bathroom spot on. Surroundings beautiful. Loved having a big kitchen and big dining room. Comfy bed!
Nice and warm.
Maybe more laundry bags.

Francesca H -  02.11.21       8/10

Great view from front,  Lots of space. Nice and warm. Great games room. Welcoming landlady. Clean.

Shower in room 5 didn’t drain properly. Shared shower in corridor not hot and loose.

Stephan H - 02.11.21       10/10

We loved the hot tub and games room and having a bar! Also en suites in all the bedrooms.
Really no improvements needed. I couldn't find a garilc crusher, but that's just being picky!  Days out - Puzzlewood

Callum E      01.11.21      10/10

Neale H. 12.10.21        9/10

We all really enjoyed the stay. Out of the various big houses we have stayed in, this one got the overall vote as best. The facilities were good and most rooms en-suite. The bar and lounge area were excellent for getting everyone together. I cannot think of any major improvements that could be made. Thank you from everyone.  We all went to the Symonds Yat viewpoint which was superb. A number of the party hired canoes for an 8 mile paddle and they thought this excellent. Both of these activities were helped by the good weather.

 Fiona H. 29.09.21        10/10

The younger ones loved the hot tub, the games room and the playground.
Some way of keeping meals warm while people help themselves - hot lights, hot plates maybe - would be the icing on the cake. The kitchens are very good. We had one fridge that didn't work but these things happen - as there are two we managed fine.

 Helma Z. 14.09.21        10/10

I loved the atmosphere of staying in our own pub. It was an excellent place for a large family reunion with young children and dogs. We were not on top of each other but we were in the same room.
Very minor point for improvement: one of the dogs ran onto the road slipping through the fence, so perhaps make the fence dog proof. Hard to think of any other improvements. I have no doubt we will be back for another reunion.

Christine B. 21.08.21

The setting was perfect. Access to the river for the canoes. Close to the cycle trails and Forrest walks.
The games room and hot tub were real assets. The only thing lacking for us was a box grater!  Raglan farm park was great for children. Plenty to do. As well as the animals there are indoor soft play areas for all ages. Butterfly zoo, adventure golf and maze, although the golf was closed for renovation when we visited. Forrest of Dean sculpture trail. Free admission!

Julie C. 10.08.21

The games room was enjoyed by all ages with teenagers dominating the TV in order to play video games. Everybody enjoyed the hot tub with its fabulous views. The house had so much space that we could do things as a whole group or in smaller groups or individually equally well. For a family group of more than 20 people it made a brilliant base for our holiday.  There is so much to do in and around the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. River Wye Lodge made the perfect base for seniors, adults, teenagers and younger children! Members of our group enjoyed canoeing, the high ropes at Go Ape, the butterfly farm and hedge puzzles at Symonds Yat as well as Perrygrove. There are also any number of walks to enjoy.

Tess I.  28.07.21

It was a wonderful property with so much room and the communication and support from everyone was excellent.  We didn't do any trips that were organised but had a great walk across country to Symonds Yat and went to the view point. We also had great fun in the river messing about.
